Stamps spark territory row in the Gulf Quickwire Manama, Bahrain - Bahrain pulled out of a Gulf philatelic exhibition in Doha after the Qatari hosts confiscated stamps that showed a disputed territory as being part of Bahrain, the information ministry said. The stamps that showed the Hawar islands as being part of Bahrain were confiscated ahead of the exhibition, running from October 30 to November 3, 1999. Doha claims the Hawar islands and Fasht al-Dibel rocks, which are potentially rich in oil and gas reserves, but have been held by Bahrain since the 1930s. Manama claims Zubara on Qatar's coast that is under Doha's control. The land dispute, which almost degenerated into war in 1986, is before the World Court. - Sapa-AFP
