The counties of Nicoya and Cañas have been naturally divided by the tempisque River. In 1976 the problem of transprotation between the regions was solved with the use of ferries, which allowed two options of routes to visit the sone of the Nicoya Peninsula: one using the Gulf Ferry and the other, the traditional route through Liberia. The bridge over the Tempisque River will become a reality with the donation of the Republic of China (Taiwán) to Costa Rica. On March 9,1999 an agreement was signed for the donation of a finished bridge, constructed by a Taiwanese company. The bridge will have a total lenght of 780 mts (2,340 feet),width of 13,3 mts (40 feet) and sidewalks on both sides. It costs about 8,000 million colones (25 million dollars). Back To Main Page |
