Seeking The ‘Definitive’ Six Pack?
Royal Mail

Six updated presentation packs covering both Country and Low and High Value stamps has been issued by Royal Mail on March 12, 2002 as part of its Definitive Stamp Collection.

The high and low value definitive packs have been updated to take into account any tariff changes over the last three years. They also bear a new crown and national floral emblems motif instead of the three lions – which is now used on the English stamps pack.

Both the high and low value stamps are printed by De La Rue, except the 2nd and 1st NVIs in the Low Value Pack which are printed by Walsall.

The packs also contain a photograph of Arnold Machin at work on his cast of The Queen’s head and examples of three of the casts used on the preparations of the stamps.

Early designs are also shown together with some of the issued stamps, including the very first Machin definitive – the 4d sepia of June 1967 – and the Millennium definitive.

The contents of the new country packs for Scotland and Wales (both previously issued on June 8, 1999) brings them into line with English and Northern Ireland stamps issued on April 23, 2001 and March 6, 2001 respectively. All packs are designed by Tutssels and printed by the White Dove Press.
