The Accession Treaty was signed in April 2003 in Athens. On May 1, 2004 the Czech Republic and nine other states - Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Malta and Cyprus - will become full members of the European Union, thus increasing the number of the EU members to 25. The Czech Republic will take a firm position in all European institutions and by the negotiating tables.
The stamp symbolises the membership of the Czech Republic in the EU by an outline of its map with twelve small stars and is completed by the Czech text CZECH REPUBLIC - A MEMBER OF THE EUROPEAN UNION.
There is one First Day Cover including commemorative cancellation the cachet of which is a contour of Europe together with twelve small stars in a circle. The cover was printed by recess print from flat lates in yellow.
The stamp is valid for inland and international postage.
