Yakub Kolas (Mitskevich Konstantin Mikhailovich; 03.11.1882 - 13.08.1956) was born near the town of Stolbtsi in the village of Okinchitsi, Minsk region. He was a poet, a writer, a playwright, a public man, a classic of Belarus literature. Yakub Kolas was one of the founders of modern Belarusian literature and Belarusian literary language.
He was a national poet of Belarus (1926), an academician of Belarus Academy of Sciences (1928), Honoured Scientist of Belarus (1944).
